It's another cold, miserable, wet'n'windy night in Scotland's unofficial music capital, but that isn't stopping the diehard, hard rock hairsprayed Glasgow glam glitterati. Drinxx are cheap and the music's smokin' (anyone else who wants to is, of course, huddled outside in the rain) – what more could you want on a Tuesday night? CSI?
First up are JMC. Not sure whether they want to be AC/DC or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they steer a course somewhere in the middle and end up sounding, well, a bit middle of the road. Still, there's plenty of energy on display (as befits a band whose name sounds like a sports store, I suppose) and you can't really argue with a cover of 'Whole Lotta Rosie' now can you?
You can't really argue with the down'n'dirty partyhard boogie rock of the Dirty Angels either. Stompalong tunes including 'Sparkling Eyes' and 'Flash-A-Go-Go' (probably not an ode to online animation – unless it happens to be pornographic) sound great in the, um, compact confines of the Capitol bar's basement - just a shame their set was so damned short, really.
Next up – aw, now, c'mon, you can't really want another review of Peep Show, can you? I'm starting to run out of glamalicious adjectives for this rascally bunch of rock'n'roll reprobates but hell, they're my favourite Scottish band at the moment (not that that narrows the field greatly) and they deserve… more adjectives. If not their own TV show – now that would be worth getting Bravo for. Tonight the set is much the same as usual: a sleazy suckerpunch of '80s-tastic metal that's lying in the gutter looking at the stars through enormous, pink-rimmed mirror shades. That do ya? Okay, so they're fixated on West Coast Crüe-style glamour and Livingston is never going to be LA, but then 'Cat boy sleeping in a wheelie bin' would sound stupid now wouldn't it? Please become famous guyz, I so want to see you on Popworld…
Finally, Wired Desire hit the stage in a flurry of denim and Pantene ProV and a frenzy of geetar exuberance. Mixing old school rock with retro-glam appeal, they sound pretty good in an AC/DC meets Aerosmith meets GN'R kinda way – and are pretty easy on the eye to boot, which never hurts. Their stand out track is probably 'Dirty Addiction', which sounds as if it comes straight off Faster Pussycat's Wake Me When It's Over album (guess what, you can hear it on MySpace), and a cover of 'Pretty Vacant' goes down well too. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the strains of the Almighty's 'Wild and Wonderful' I hear as we plunge back out in the weather – which reminds me when I last saw hair like that…
A wild and wonderful night then? Well the weather was certainly wild and the cheap drink was pretty wonderful, and as for the music – I'd settle for 'No bad'…
