Peep Show

Edinburgh Liquid Room, 6th April 2008

Oops. So we finally get to go to a gig in Edinburgh, and we're on the guest list. So what do we do? Only sit in the pub so long we miss half of Peep Show's set.

Peep Show - out for blood and rock'n'roll glory...

Which is a crying shame, because the Next Big Thing to Come Out of Scotland™ are on fighting form tonight. With new boyz  Kennii Black and Charlie Deville on bass and drums, the spanking new PS line up is cocked and loaded and ready to kick some Edinburgh ass.

Clad in black and oozing attitude, this new, leaner, meaner, darker incarnation of the spirit of glam tear through a handful of traxx from their debut album, Out For Blood (available to buy on their MySpace page, kidz). Okay, so the new songs sound a bit ragged around the edges, especially when compared to the blisteringly accomplished version of old faves 'Peep Show' and 'The Stand' that end the short show, but they're raw, aggressive and bleeding bad ass glam metal from every pore so what more could you want – blood?

Well, you get that as well, mostly smeared across the skinny frame of frontman Johnny Gunn, who, like a true maverick rock'n'roll magpie, has clearly been stealing some moves from the masters, striding around the stage like Alice, dancing like Taime Downe and getting his mic lead in a God-awful tangle like the lovely Mike Monroe.

Ah, Peep Show. They've got the look, they've got the songs, they've got the yowling geetar lixx, and they've got the drive to succeed. Now all they need is a shot at the big time. Out for blood, out for full on rock'n'roll glory: the Scottish glam rock revolution starts here…
